I got a google home device and I was wondering how I could make it turn off my upstairs lights, or close the garage door, arm my security system, etc. Anyone doing anything like this with PH and Google Home?

This sounds great!
I installed habridge on a spare raspberry pi. Started it up and went to add a phillips hue device in google home. It immediately tries to make me log into meethue.com. I don't have a phillips hue so I don't have a meethue account. On the github page, there is a note about this:
ISSUE: Google Home now seems to not support local connection to Philips Hue Hubs and requires that it connect to meethue.com. Since the ha-bridge only emulates the local API, and is not associated with Philips, this method will not work. If you have an older Google Home application, this may still work. YMMV.

I saw that info, but it's still working for me. I set up my devices via the ha-bridge web page.

I think I am still before that step even. I can't get google home to recognize the device even. As soon as I try to add the Phillips hue device, it goes right to the meethue.com login page.

I'm using latest Home app. Maybe it's grandfathered-in or something.

Nope. HA Bridge is killed with the latest update. :(

For myself:
I'm not comfortable with Google or any company knowing what devices in my home are turned on or off, or what my
thermostat is set to, or whether I'm home or not. Having a WEB device in my home that listens to my every word,
in my opinion, is completely INSANE! For myself, remaining as "offline" and local as much as possible is
preferred.
I totally accept that Google, Amazon, Honeywell and other companies have wonderful products, systems, API's and
maybe even some AI, but they also retain records of everything. Yes, with "smart meters,' credit card
company's and phone company's records, my privacy is partially invaded, ' ' but it's mostly impossible to
avoid these anymore. However, Home Depot doesn't need to know what I have in my refrigerator!
I still have some options to keep my devices offline. When, for example, PH has a local interface to a Phillips
light bulb, I'm all in, but not until.
Yes, I'm a security nut, but knowing what I know, I intend to remain "offline" as much and as long as possible.

I definitely would like to but I don't see me getting a chance to look at it until after I finally get this next version out. I probably should go
ahead and pick up a Google Home mini so I can have it on hand for when I get a chance. While Ive got an Alexa solution ready to go with the next
version, Im also looking into a proper smarthome skill for the Alexa for PowerHome. The current solution is a generic skill and would require anybody
who wants to use it to set up a free Alexa developer account and copy/paste some code to make their own skill. This skill will take the recognized
phrase and pass that to PowerHome via the PH Web server and then some clever natural language interpretation to perform the desired action.
Once/If I get an Alexa smarthome skill up and going, I'll offer both solutions since it appears that the smarthome skill may be a little more rigid
in the accepted utterances. Once I get this all worked out, I would love to look at Google Home.

Since I finally broke down and purchased a Philips Hue starter kit over Black Friday, I should finally get that Hue integration going.

I wasn't adding pressure to working on the Phillips Hue,
rather I was rambling about security. It's a sore spot
with me. I took my meds and have calmed down now...
