I use snapstream on my PH PC to record TV. It makes my PC like a super Tivo. I then use 3 Hauppauge MediaMVP's connected to my network to send these TV shows to 3 TVs throughout the house. The quality of the video is terrific (Not HD though)- as good as digital cable. The MediaMVP's have their own remote control and send IR signals from the mediamvps in the 3 rooms to the PC. (I use a Harmony remote control to mimic the mediamvp's remote). This allows the MediaMVP to control not only video from the PC but also music, pictures and, using an open source skin, even weather, weather maps and a couple of web pages of the users choice. My point is, that the MediaMVP is a very versatile device. It's list price is $99 but you can get for $80-$90.

For the longest time I've been looking into various IR devices. I use the USB-UIRT and just started using the Powermids. The receiver portion of the powermid has to be close to the USB-UIRT and apparently is subject to lots of interference from the various computer devices I have around the room so it's constantly sending bogus IR codes to the USB-UIRT and thus PH.

So here is the feature request. Would it be possible to add the MediaMVP as an IR controller in PH? This would be a low cost, yet attractive solution to IR issues. It would actually cost less than an ocelot or Niles or whatever, when you take into account the various IR receivers you would need. Also, since it connects to the network and then directly to the PC and PH, it's really a wired solution and some of the IR failure rate would be eliminated. This would be similar to a global cache solution for a little less money (with the added streaming benefits of the MediaMVP device).

Noel,

Do you know if they have a published protocol or SDK? If they make an open interface available, I'll add it to the to-do list.

Dave.

Thanks, Dave.

There is a discussion about an SDK here,
but I did a search and can't find it.

There is an SDK for Beyond TV which can be found here.
I am not sure whether it is relevant though.
