I was going to purchase PowerHome, and then I saw that there was a 30 day trial, and so I decided to start with that. I installed it following the QuickStart guide, and after installation I'm getting a bunch of errors:

DAX Error: Access violation at address 005F1E5B in module 'sdm3.exe'. Read of address 00000208.

Auto Message: SmartHome Device Manager ISRESPONDING command failed for Insteon PLC POWERLINC_V2. Attempting to restart controller...

Unable to retrieve PLC internal links using <something or another> (I couldn't get this one down fast enough before it went away.

I'd really like to be successful with this software, but am not having too much luck yet.

I'm trying it use it to control my Insteon devices using the PowerLinc V2 USB.

My Smarthome Device Manager shows the following in the console:

downloadTimer started
timerActivate enabled
SDM:DM=active,1.01.88.235,2/23/2008 6:49:32 PM,responded,08.AA.68,2.13

Can anyone help with suggestions?

Chris,

Welcome to PowerHome. Im sorry to hear that you're having problems right away.

The first thing I would try is to shut PowerHome down as well as the SDM. Shutting PowerHome down is easy enough...to shutdown the SDM, you'll need to locate it's icon in the system tray (yellow "T" icon), click it, wait for it's window to open, click anywhere in the logging window, type the characters D M, and type haltdm in the command window.

With both shutdown, lets see if the problem is PowerHome or the SDM. Manually launch the SDM by navigating to the PowerHome SDM directory (default c:\program files\powerhome\smarthome\device manager) and launching SDM.exe. The yellow "T" should appear in the tray. Click it to activate it, type the D M to open the command window, and type isresponding followed by enter. If that returns true, next try typing getplcstatus and confirm its results. If all looks well including the PLC address, try launching PowerHome.

Let me know where you get with this and we'll go from there.

Dave.

I did what you recommended, and now it's functioning. I restarted both about 20 times before this, so I don't know what is different this time, but no more problems for now.

I'm not 100% sure it's resolved because nothing really changed, but whatever, I'll see how it goes. Thanks for the help.

Glad you got it going. Sometimes when installing the SDM it has to be started first so it can register itself in the registry. After that all is well. Dave can clarify this.
