I am new to PH and am attempting to set it up to use with
with my Insteon Hub on my Windows 7 64-bit desktop. I
have set up the ActiveX with launch type PH_VSP.phvsp and
 installation data 7 9761 192.168.68.98.

On start up I get an the message: An error occurred while
loading Plugin: INSTEON HUB. The return code is: -2.

 Under About Plugins it says:
 ***PLUGIN INVALID***
 PowerHome Plugin ID: INSTEON HUB
 Plugin failed during initialization.

On the forums I have seen discussion of registering VSP
plugin but I haven't found how to do that.

 Thanks!

dpiehl,

To register the ph_vsp plugin, just run:

 regsvr32 "c:\powerhome\plugins\ph_vsp.ocx"

You should get a DLL successfully registered message.

 Dave.

Thanks. It registered successfully but now I'm getting
error code -3. I still see ***PLUGIN INVALID*** in About

dpiehl,

You'll probably need to register the Virtual Serial Port control as well.

If you navigate to c:\powerhome\drivers\vsp 6.2 you'll see the virtual serial port control files. Try running regsvr32 vsport.dll. You may need to do this as an administrator.

 Let me know,

 Dave.

The Virtual Serial Port is now registered (as admin) but
still no joy. Still getting error code -3.

I'll troubleshoot it more when I'm off this holiday
 weekend.

I have used HUB in my testing but with XP. take a look at the issue and stuff (with the Dave's help) I did before it started working.

also make sure if you had used the houselink to connect to your INSTEON HUB it may not release the Socket connection , only way I found is to reboot the computer which was using houselink and do not use Houselink while testing with PH.

dpiehl,

Definitely check out the post Nick referred to. He had the same problems you're having and the part about viewing the COM ports in Device manager will be good troubleshooting.

One other thing to try is to make sure that the Catalyst activex controls are all properly registered. Reference the second post in this thread for more info: http://www.power-home.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2723&KW= regsvr32&PN=0&TPN=3

 Let me know,

 Dave.

Hi Nick, I appreciate the help. I am using Houselink and
have tried disabling and rebooting but no change. I
noticed that the thread you pointed me to refers to
Insteon's SmartLinc but mine is an Insteon Hub model
2242-2222. Do these devices work the same?

Sorry about all the newbie questions.

David, I'm not finding any of the Catalyst ocx files on my
computer. Was the installer supposed to unpack them?

dpiehl,

that post was about hidden socket port found on Insteon and to communicate with PH we will need virtual port. if you look at my posting middle of the page it does states that I am using Insteon Hub 2242-222. see if that helps.

Also in your each try do reboot your HUB (power off for 10 sec)

Depending upon your OS, they should be either in c:\windows\system32 or c:\windows\syswow64.

Hurray! I'm it working.

Dave, Initialization worked fine after registering the
Catalyst activex controls. Since I have Win7 64bit, the
files were in the syswow64 folder.

Nick, Thanks for the tip on rebooting after using
 HouseLinc.

On this Thanksgiving, I am sure thankful for your help!
