Anyone else having trouble with TTS? Sometimes, while speaking, the module (next time, I'll have to note the name) crashes and won't come back until PH is restarted.

Tony,

So far Ive never had a problem with the TTS.  What OS and type of TTS are you using?  Is it something that recently cropped up or have you been plagued with it for some time.

Also, you might want to try downloading the SAPI 5 TTS from Microsoft and trying that with PowerHome.  The latest version of PowerHome now supports SAPI 5 TTS and my tests so far look very promising.

Dave.

The problem just started. Maybe even with the upgrade to 1.02.2.

Win98SE, TTS: SAPI 5.1.4324, according to the Control Panel. Going into PH, it was set to TSS Class. Hitting Preview Voice in the Control Panel gives silence, though. I just changed PH to Direct SS to see what happens.

Thanks - Tony

Direct SS is definately the preferred method over TTS Class.  It looks like you could even use the SAPI 5 if you wanted to give it a try.

Just remember to restart PowerHome after changing any of the TTS engines to see the changes.

Dave.

Isn't SAPI 5.1.4324 the same as saying SAPI 5, or, am I missing something here?

The Microsoft site shows the Speech SDK 5.1 at 68MB!  Is this what I would need?

It should be...I don't think you would have to download anything.  The SAPI 5.1.4324 should be all you need.  Just change the engine in PowerHome to SAPI 5 and it should work.

All is well, now, but, the SAPI 5 inflections are strange!

Ive noticed that as well.  Actually SAPI 5 supports embedded XML commands that allow you to adjust the inflection, etc.  I havent had a chance to play around with it though.  One thing that I did find out is that SAPI 5 knows how to pronounce "WIND" in the GetWeather macro.

Hehe! That's good; I'll have to mod the macro and see what happens!
