All,
Part of the planned changes for .13 include upgrading the PowerBuilder version that PowerHome is built in. The current version of PowerHome is built in PowerBuilder 9.03 which is more than 2 years old and nearing end of life support from Sybase. The current version of PowerBuilder is 11.1 with 11.2 right around the corner. There are some nice new features which will simplify programming as well as modernize the look of the interface (as well as give me a chance to add some new cool features).
Ive been delaying the upgrade for a couple of years now because it's a bit involved. PowerBuilder 9 was the last ANSI version of PowerBuilder and starting with PB10, it's now Unicode. Ive been working the last couple of weeks on migrating the code to PB11 and am about half way through. It's tedious because I have to make sure all conversions are done properly from ANSI to Unicode.
Now...the reason for the poll. It has just occurred to me that this may be troublesome for some users. The problem is that PowerBuilder 10 and up is Unicode only. This means that PowerHome will no longer run on non-unicode OS'es such as Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows Me. PowerHome will only work on NT, 2000, 2003, XP, and Vista.
So...should PowerHome stay in PowerBuilder 9 (no more Sybase support) and support Windows 95 and above or should I move to PowerBuilder 11.1 and only support Windows NT and above?

We have this same quandry in my work.
I suggest dead ending the version for PB9, leaving it available unsupported, and advancing to new versions with PB11.
While I still have some W98 systems, I realize that they are limited, and can't use some modern programs. In fact, I keep them to be able to use some older programs I need that will not run on W-XP or Vista.

Stay with the industry and move forward. I still have an old IBM XT with a 20MB hard drive but I don’t expect anyone to support the software that runs on DOS.. This is a beta right? My 2 cents….

I would agree with everyone thus far, lets move forward with technology. I think moving to 11.1 would be a big step forward.
Also, with this move, I look forward to new and improved features.

The only thing I might use PH on 95/98 for is to tie in touch screens. Since I've recently started switching all remote functions over to web based only, I vote for the upgrade too.

Dave - I have 5 PCs to maintain at home (wife runs a business) and I tend to stay behind the curve. I only started moving to XP in '04, and shutdown my last W98 machine in '06. I'm years and years from trying Vista.
Still W98 is 10 years old, and XP will actually run ok on even a P-III. So, although I support you having waited this long, I think it's safe to leave W98 behind.

Worst case is some people continue to run the current version of PowerHome - it will continue to work as well as it does now (which is pretty damn well).
At somepoint you might have to cut off supporting people who choses to do that, but I can't imagine there are going to be many of them.
Move forward... Powerbuilder 11 here we come!

I think it's time to say goodbye to Windows 9x/Me and move forward with PB 11.1. I think you've hung on to 16-bit Windows support longer than most companies have.

For me its not so much of what OS is running but how Powerhome will work on older hardware. I chose not to write eHome in .NET because touch screens and the market I was aiming for (DIY) are running older equipment. I would say if Powerbuilder 11 runs fine on older equipment then hey... go for it.
But if in the real world if Powerbuilder 11 needs a whole lot of RAM and big horse-power CPU's then I would re think it...
Just my 2 cents!

Update and support new stuff. Don't wait for Powerbuilder 12.
Old stuff unsupported, we can always keep old version on weaker machines and refer to forum.

Win98 has been unsupported for years now. You are losing far more sales by not updating your software then you are by keeping the old one around.
My opinion, of course. (Who else's would it be?) ;-)

Please upgrade to .13 immediately. I have 2 new ELK installs that require Powerhome. In my industry, time is money.

I 100% agree with the consensus opinions here. PH has been so almost completely bug free over the years that sunsetting the current version will leave few, if any, in any real compromised position.
If I had an old machine, I would not expect newer SW releases to support it.
Move ahead with something you can more readily maintain and support! That makes the most sense.

PH is working fine in win 7 and win 10 , I have used
both.
