I have been following the thread where Lee built a very nice macro to set up the V2 motion sensors:

http://www.myx10.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2577&KW=motio n+sensor&TPN=1

I am stuck with the same issue as described later in the thread; my raw Insteon log shows quite a few timeouts...the answer in the thread was to make sure there was another dual band device near the motion sensor....in my case, there already is...

To troubleshoot this, so far I have:

1) Verified that I have multiple other dual band devices near and on the same electrical phase/leg. I have them successfully linked back to my PLM. I have them set up as I2CS devices with the" Use EXT for ALDB" box checked. They appear to work (I can control load, link and unlink them etc.)

2) I have my motion sensor (MS) set up in the same manner as above (I2CS and EXT for ALDB checked). And, I can successfully see the commands coming from the MS and be recognized by the PLM. It works...but it is not configured the way I would like it to be - hence the need for Lee's macro.

3) I have verified that I have Jumper 5 installed (also jumper 2 and 4 installed).

4) I have verified the batter is fresh.

I now am out of ideas to try to get this neat macro that Lee wrote to work.

Post the raw log and describe where the errors are
happening. Are the errors occurring when the initial MS
options are displayed or after changing one or more.

Note that Jumpers 2-4 have no meaning when Jumper 5 is in
place.

You might think about trigdisable in the Boolean also.

Lee-
I will post the raw Insteon log soon (need some house alone time....otherwise my system is way too active).

Thanks for the clarification on the jumpers...I was not aware of this.

Pete-
Not sure what you mean... In Lee's macro (with corresponding trigger), the trigger has Boolean of "ph_disabletrigger(ph_getvar_s(2,1))+1"
that I thought would take care of the multiple Insteon-in type commands that RF devices typically send. I can see that Lee's macro is only firing one time when I provide a motion input to the motion sensor (hence I think his Boolean is working as desired).

Bad on me.. That's what I get for not checking Lee's macro. As long as you have It you should be good to go. The other thing I do to keep it clean is to physically link it to the PLM meaning press the button on the detector and then the button on the plm. Sounds funky but it works for me.

There is no Extended command communication with the
Motion Sensor.

Note the 5 second response delay in PH before issuing the
timeout message. My PLM I use with PH2 has taken a turn
for the bad, otherwise I would post a trace for what it
should look like. Once I get the PLM resolved I'll post
a trace of what should happen.

Try moving the Motion Sensor closer to the PLM (assuming
a 2413).

Hmm...Now I am stuck...

From PLM sticker....
2413S
V1.0
0931

My Motion Sensor is only about 1 foot away from my PLM during my testing. Additionally, I have a dual band LampLinc (#2457D2) about 2 feet away.

If it is not a distance issue... is it the V1.0 hardware?? or something else in my PH setup that is not utilizing the extended commands??

Thanks Pete!

smarty

I found the problem with my PLM, had actually pulled the
RJ45 jack completely off the cable (poor cable run on my
part). I should have a new RJ45 jack in place tomorrow.
Need to run some errands early but should get to it later
in the day.

Do not know why a 2413S would not handle the Extended
commands. The 2413 was released while Extended commands
were being used to configure some of the later devices.

Is this Motion Sensor an I2CS device?

Motion Sensor is:
Model #2842-2

From the sticker:
3912 REV2.3
21.4E.4E

This should indeed be an I2CS type motion sensor...

I think I destroyed the PLM when the cable was pulled out
of the RJ45 jack. I do have a few I2CS Motion Sensors
although not under PH2 at present. Once I get PH2 running
I'll move one of the I2CS Motion Sensors over and see what
happens.

I apologize for the delay.

Smarty,

Another thing to try is to Clear the COMMS for the motion sensor. PowerHome has a mechanism where even if extended communications is selected, if the failure limit for extended comms is exceeded, it will fall back to standard comms. I'll need to verify if this holds true for I2CS devices (it shouldn't since I2CS ONLY accepts extended comms) but I know its that way for standard extended devices.

Just a thought.

Dave.

Had some more time to play with this...

To try to start from scratch, I cleared my PLM (Insteon tab, Setup tab, then Clear), and then also unplugged my PLM, held in the button on the side and plugged it back in (while holding the side button for 5 sec). Should be a clean and cleared PLM.

This is where I now seen some odd problems... After the above procedure, I attempted to due a "Add Full". After about the 12th entry, the loading process stalled. Clearing the COMMs (the whole column) caused activity to commence (but I don't think "Add Full" was completed successfully).

Tried some variations, but I could NEVER "Add Full" successfully. I am able to "Add Min" successfully. Might this be a faulty PLM? My PLM is one of the oldest 2413's that is supposed to be able to do I2 commands. Is the "Add Full" needed for extended commands (I didn't think so).

Lastly, before all this was started, I looked over the line entry in the Insteon devices tab, and verified that my PLM was set up to use "I2" "IEngine" and it was checked for "Previous Exclude" and also "Use Ext for ALDB"

Similarly, my motion sensor was set to use the "I2CS" "IEngine" and it was checked for "Previous Exclude" and also "Use Ext for ALDB".

Other than a new PLM, I am running out of ideas to try.

I have not resolved my local problem. Switched to a new
Serial cable thinking something wrong with the new RJ45
jack. Even tried a different PLM for a short time without
success. Motion Sensor sends a Group Cleanup Direct
message but does not appear to be sending the initial Group
Broadcast message.

Thanks for the update -

My PLM will still not "add all", it only will "add min". Maybe a bad PLM ????

Still awaiting the next version of PH...maybe it will help.....just have to wait and see.

Sorry for the very slow response. I finally had enough
time to evaluate the PLM.   It is very old (2412SH) and
looks like it just stopped working correctly for both
Houselinc and PH. Have replaced it with a 2413U on
Houselinc and have that platform running again.   Will make
the same change on PH which I assume will get it back to
operation.

Was able to see under HouseLinc the I2CS Motion Sensor
requires some different commands. Once I get PH running on
the new PLM I will change the Motion Sensor Macro to
support both variations of Motion Sensor.

Any forward progress here by chance? I really appreciate all the support that Dave/you and the forum provide.

I have PH running under a newer PLM. Working on the macro
changes but have not got a working version for an I2CS
motion sensor. My first attempt was not reliable so I'm
moving the Insteon Engine check earlier in the process.
Not sure about today. Although snowed in I have to get out
to get to the pharmacy which may take most of the day.
