A couple thoughts. Did you reboot your computer
before attempting the install? I think PH has some
processes that run as Services in the background, and
they would still be running if you didn't reboot.

I'm not aware what "CPanel" is, but if it did it
right, there should be no "powerhome" program folder
contents. In fact you should be able to just delete
that folder if it still exists (since you have already
saved it as a different folder.

Upgrading from 2.1.5b there is no need to uninstall,
just rename your PowerHome directory and then install
fresh. Copy over your database and pwrhome.ini
files (as well as any others such as plugin ini

files) and you should be good to go.

I deleted the old powerhome folder, still getting the
error message that I can't install until all older
versions of the program are uninstalled.

At this point, I think that Dave is the only person who
can help me. I've rebooted, uninstalled all old
version, removed the old powerhome folder. Nothing left
for me to do.

I'm grasping at straws here, but is there any chance
your Windows "Programs & Features" Control Panel Ap
might still be showing Powerhome?

If so try Uninstalling there.

Zero chance, that's what I meant by I uninstalled with
Cpanel. Should have said Control Panel, but I launch by
typing cpanel in the search area of the task bar... LOL.

I left a PM with Dave to see if he can suggest
something.

I thought I might chime in since this seems too simple..
As far as the initial error with the controller did you
setup the com port? To uninstall rename the c:/powerhome
to something else. You should also have already copied
your database to a backup location along with your
config.ini file. in the control panel programs
install/uninstall if Powerhome is showing then uninstall
it. If it is not showing and when you go to install a new
one and it says to uninstall you will then have to use
regedit to remove it.

Ah Beachbum. That makes sense.
Always good to hear from you and your highly awesome
insights. Hope you don't get any snow with this cold
front coming. Here in Central Florida it looks like it
will just barely stay above freezing. Hope so as lost
way too many plants last year.

I appreciate any and all input. It is setup to the correct comport (used device manager to
find it). I did the uninstall correctly and save my INI and DB files, so that I was
successfully able to recover after the failed attempts at the upgrade.

Dave gave me a list of registry entries that he checks to see if PH is installed, but my
registry has none of them. Sort of stuck right now. I have no visible traces of PH after I
install it, but dave's check for previous versions is still catching something.

QuickCarl2K1-

Just so you know you have company on your journey.... every time I start up PH I get an error window stating an error occured while reading the IRTable. But my IRTable is empty. Got some other table locations from Dave and they are empty but I still get the error.

I haven't looked but might we now be in a "Full Moon" period?

Sometimes that can happen when you do an insert and you
did not complete what you wanted at that insert. The
default is IR.

QuickCarl2K1, have you thought about System Restore to a
point where it once was working?

Thanks for the input.

I have a working setup with version 21b. I can't get my USB Dongle working (reason for my initial post on this thread) but have with my 2413U.

My stress point right now is not being able to upgrade to 2.1.5c or d as chronicled on this thread: http://www.power-home.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=10826&PN =1

Just for fun can you verify that REGEDIT shows this
entry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Compatibility
Assistant\Persisted

at this point look for an entry pointing to any reference
to c:\powerhome or c:\2.1.5x

x being a to d

That's good. Now for one more check. Download and run
Belarc Advisor. It will generate a report about your
system. You can skip any questions when it offers you
that option. Takes about one minute to run. When the
report shows on your screen scroll down to a table with
the heading "Software Versions & Usage" and look in that
table for anything close to " PowerHome Automation -
PowerHome - Home Automation Control Program version
2.1.5c"

This is really weird, I have an entry in the report of "
PowerHome Automation - PowerHome - Home Automation
Control Program version 1.03.4.11"

Don't have any idea how that could be.

Awesome information and support here !

Carl, that entry is likely what is causing the issue (and that version is ANCIENT). Hopefully Pete's PM to you is helpful.

Dave.

Dave and all. I worked with Carl until the cows came
home to no avail. Although I thought I was very close
to it. Just ran out of time. If I stand correct he is
on 21b trying to eventually get to 215c. The problem I
think is the MSI is either missing from the 21b or the
21b install is corrupting it.. I was able to recover
that failure and thought it was fixed but instead found
that the 215b install actually wiped out the renamed
powerhome-bak. I was going to delete the powerhome
directory entry but instead rename it on a hunch. The
hunch was correct as the directory was corrupted.. The
sequence was rename powerhome , uninstall and then
install. The result looked like uninstall and them
rename. Bottom line is his system is very unstable and
hope that maybe we can get closer to it tomorrow. Could
not find anything wrong with his system nor did I see
that he was doing anything wrong either. The uninstall
of 21b seemed to take when I uninstalled it but
obviously it didn't. After what seemed like 5 hours on
the phone he is a very patient person.

Dave , do you remember having any problems with the
migrating from 21b onward? If anyone else gets involved
I have backups in a folder CHC. His database is very
small and I was unable to run phupg successfully. That
alone is probably telling us something.
Pete...

Pete,

WOW, that is definitely some dedication. Really appreciate you lending your knowledge and expertise. I don't really remember having specific
problems going from 2.1b to the various 2.1.x releases that followed. The only thing is that going direct from 2.1b to 2.1.5c would require 2 or
more passes with at least a couple of different versions of the phupg utility (The phupg.exe that is in the PH directory and one or more older
versions in the phupg.zip file in the PH directory).

I know Carl said he didnt have any of the registry entries but Im wondering (based upon Windows version) if they arent mapped somewhere else. I
would do a search on each of the GUID's below to see if they show anywhere in his registry:

3035DF25-9BF0-43E5-BACD-2B7ADDF6BE3C
6F5835AC-A1D6-4F0E-A0A4-156E855965E4
6F7D953F-C266-4789-945D-81212189FEBD
8A30E8FD-97F4-4CF0-BEBE-F2AE65856BD2
312969DC-B5EA-46AE-8C12-60C8BBD61CD8
3EE51B0D-6600-469E-AE1B-B4BCE5217FA4
3C54EE59-A387-40BA-8DE3-6377B8752D9E
5BE09872-9011-42FE-A987-61A555F57A6C
9185AEA7-A03D-4EA5-928A-8619D7107DBA
7B432C74-8E9B-4C88-AAD0-4020281D256B
3A7DC059-9717-4124-9AD5-44A9FBDC0687
613DAD43-6D2B-4D69-9BD0-19BB3115E7B8
4BDA3BC5-6A92-4CC4-89BD-F47E8A6A7FDF

If any of these exist, they will prevent the install of 2.1.5c on the machine. If the machine is really unstable and the machine is primarily
used for PowerHome, we could always reload the OS and then there wouldnt be any problem with old installs.

Let me know what you find out.

Dave.
