Thanks for user id/pwd explanation. Blank user id and password worked in previous release. Uses guest in PH.
I entered the master id and password into iHome and that fixed it. Not sure what changed from last release to this one.
So I am back running. Thanks
Al

I use an external IP address so I can demo the app and found I had to drop the http:// and just use www. for it to work. I believe the old version was the same.

Lost all the buttons and settings of course and now trying to set it back up.
Did the handling of the server url change in this version? I can no longer get iHome to connect to the server. I am using an ip address and port.
If I enter "http://192.168.0.2:8000" in the server url I cannot connect via the Test Safari link or via iHome. The address in the safari session is "http://(null):(nul)@http://192.168.0.2:8000" which does not connect.
If I enter "192.168.0.2:8000" the Test in Safari works. The address in the safari session is "http://(null):(nul)@192.168.0.2:8000". This works in safari although looks weird. I remember early iHome version did something similar. So with this address given by iHome I can connect to my PH server correct.
But while this address works in Safari iHome does not connect. Nothing in PH log when attempt to connect from iHome.
Ideas?
Al

The URL in Safari is made up of 3 parts (http://[username]:[password]@[server]). The "(null)" is because the fields were left blank. I have never tested the app without a username and password so that may be the issue. Try setting up a username and password in PowerHome and see if that fixes the problem. Once we figure it out I'll send another update out. |

I didn't change anything in that portion of the app so I am not sure why it worked before and doesn't work now. Either way I will fix it to work without a username and password and resubmit the app tonight.

That is correct. The server URL can be an IP address or domain name. I have a subdomain of invisionsta.com pointed to my PH server. The "http://" is not needed and must be left out.
Has anyone else had upgrading problems? I would like to get it fixed and submitted to the app store.

Sounds like a problem with the database. When you run the
updated app the first time it upgrades the database to
add space to store some extra information. It sounds like
that update failed and left the database unusable. To
recover from this you will need to delete the app and
reinstall it.
I will look into the bug. Has anyone else had this
problem? |

Yes, I downloaded the app on Saturday and ran into the
same issue. I lost all my buttons.

Loosing buttons is a given with this update... Thats to be expected when making changes to the structure of a database of this type.
A tip for re-creating your buttons would be to proto type all of your buttons in PowerHome. I do it in the "Formula" section. When I have them all running the way I would expect I copy the formulas into an email and send it to myself on the iPhone. Then you can copy the formuls from the email and paste it into the button.
You will have buttons again as well as a back-up copy for future reference in your PowerHome.

I am looking into a way to fix the database problem. Until I figure that one out I just submitted an update that will allow you to use iHome without a username and password setup in PowerHome. Apple is saying the average app update gets approved in 6 days and thats about what the last one took.
iHome 2.0 has been put on hold while I figure out what I want to do with the iPad. I have a few new ideas that should work really well on both and give you a lot more options.

I am having a problem getting the program to work. I can connect to powerhome through Safari as a test, but I haven't been able to get a button to work.
With an Insteon device named "study" how do I create a button to simply turn it on and off?

You would need to add a button and use "INSTEON+study" as the formula.
If you want to control a group use "INSTEONGROUP+groupName".

I entered INSTEON+STUDY without quotes in the formula.
Nothing.

What mode type of button do you have it set as?
Is PowerHome showing the http request or an error?

I'm making progress Kevin. Have patience with me.
1. I wasn't using a username/password for web access. Now I
do and iHome communicates with Powerhome.
2. INSTEON+STUDY works as I imagine it should. Toggles the
lamp module and changes Icon color to indicate on/off
state.
3. INSTEON+ENTER will only only turn on the modules within
the group. It will not turn them off. The icon color does
not change with on/off state. In the edit window I can
toggle the entire group using Control:On/Off.

It sounds like you have it now. Here is an example of how I use groups and have a button that shows the status of the group. I'm sure there are other ways of doing it so hopefully someone might chime in.
In my case I have multiple devices in my living room and multiple groups for different scenes. There is one device common to all groups - "L_LIVNG_RM_LAMP". I have button 1 defined as "INSTEON+L_LIVNG_RM_LAMP". This turns the living room lamp on and off.
Button 2 is defined as a formula that tests for the level of the living room lamp. It uses a case statement that determines in real time what command the button will send. In my case the group "LIVING_RM_FADE" sets the lamp to a level of 167 so that is what I test for
Example:
LIVING RM FADE TOGGLE: BUTTON 2
case(ph_getinsteonlevel( "L_LIVNG_RM_LAMP" ) when 167 then (
ph_insteongroup ( "LIVING_RM", 17, 1 )
) else (
ph_insteongroup ( "LIVING_RM_FADE", 17, 1 )
)
)
The group "LIVING_RM" is all devices at the normal level. What you end up with is the ability to set two different scenes for a room and have button 1 show the dimmed level of the room.

Thanks Scott, but your formula goes a bit over my head.
I sure do hope some others chime in with formula
examples. Or I'll have to wait for the manual.

Sorry for the long response time. Here is how I have mine set up.
For every light I have a group with the light and all of the KPL buttons. Turning the group on and off will get the light and all of the KPL buttons. Then in iHome I add a button and use the formula for the light (ie. INSTEON+ENTRY). Then I change the type to custom and change the on and off formulas to control the group instead of the light (ie. ph_devicecontrol("INSTEONGROUP+ENTRY_GROUP+ON")).
Also the 1.1.1 update that was approved a few days ago fixes the problem with not setting a username and password.

I got it now Kevin. I didn't realize what "custom" was
doing.
So you can use On/Off to set up a lamp as a "marker" and
use custom to change how the marker is controlled. Is there
a limitation to what you can change in the on, off and
status formulas?
What is the formula type used for?
Jerry

The only limitation is that it must be less than 255 characters.
