Jayson,
I contacted Pulseworx and they confirmed that the USB PIM drivers do create a virtual serial port and that is how it should be communicated with.
Im going to setup and play with this this weekend so I can relay back to you the steps necessary to get this going.
Dave.

Thanks Dave. I was able to juggle around some hardware last night and test
with a serial PIM. Everything works as expected with that PIM.
Somewhat interesting that UPStart has an explicit USB setting in the
configuration that works even if the USB driver is not setup correctly.

Any update on this? I'm thinking of going UPB instead of INSTEON moving forward. My system is out of serial ports and I would need a USB PIM. Did anyone get the USB UPB PIM working with Power-Home properly? Is the USB PIM reliable (vs. the serial PIM)? The USB INSTEON PCL was flaky.
Thanks,
-Dean

Dean,
I have a USB PIM working in my system. Its been fairly reliable but there has been a couple of times (in about a years time) that Ive had to power cycle it. I also have a serial PIM and have never had a problem with it.
The main thing with the USB PIM is making sure that the USB drivers are properly loaded and that a virtual serial port is assigned. This seems to work best if the drivers are installed before ever connecting the PIM to your PC.
Dave.

Thanks Dave. Other than the indicated better reliability of the serial vs USB PIM, is everything else the same? Everything that can be done with the serial can be done with the USB? Which PIM do you have, the PulseWorx PIM-R and PIM-U? I don't have the time I used to have to experiment with new stuff, I just want something that works with PH and is reliable (or at least more reliable than INSTEON). Thanks.
